Aria Stone - Corridors

Event date: 1 Apr 2010 - 3 Jul 2010

Aria Stone, former resident of the Sunshine Coast, is an artist and musician currently studying a Master of Visual Art in painting at the Australian National University (ANU) in Canberra. She has been involved with the Field Studies programs, Engaging Visions and Contested Landscapes, run by John Reid at ANU. In 2009 after spending time in the Benalla area in Victoria, Aria composed the song Corridors and painted a number of small watercolour and gouache studies on paper.

Aria has created a Youtube video of the works on paper and performs her original song Corridors which she recorded in her home studio.

The song Corridors was inspired by the Regent Honey Eater Project - http://regenthoneyeater.org.au/index.php and the planting of corridors of trees to protect the small native birds and animals from predators and to assist with survival of the species.

The creation of works on paper was motivated by the time spent at Lake Mokoan with the dead trees that lost their lives when the Winton Wetland was turned into a man-made lake in the early 1970’s The area is now being returned to a wetland and is a very important Australian environment program - http://www.lakemokoan.com/index.asp .
