The Australian bush where I have been lucky enough to live and work for most of my life is fragile and often fragmented in appearance.

My time and observations are divided between the area known as Wallum, which is basically floodplains and heathland surrounding Noosa's lake and river systems, and the even more sparse, as well as bony, dry inland.
I have usually been attracted to the less dense and lush forests and grasslands, where the ‘bones' of the landscape are more obvious. Where one discovers treasures of small wildflowers and plants, weathered rocks and sticks, and marvellous subtle colours in treebark.

All of my works relate directly to both seen and ‘unseen' aspects of these landscapes. The unseen, to me, encompasses the still strong spiritual presence of a once vital indigenous people and culture, and the core soul of an old continent. I am constantly reminded of DH Lawrence talking about ".....the underdarkness, and lost, weary aloofness..." of our land.

Materials, as well as subject matter, are frequently taken from the landscape and incorporated in works.
