Inspired by the treeline beauty on Buderim Mountain
Event date: 17 Mar 2010 - 4 Jul 2010
My tree inspiration comes from the trees that grow in my backyard in Buderim on the Sunshine Coast of Australia. Buderim is situated on an old volcano and noted for its natural rainforest beauty. I gain inspiration for many of my paintings from the trees that grow around my house. They are my friends....attracting birds who visit me on a daily basis. The Treeline project prompted me to post one of my paintings that represent my place. It is called "Heartland - My Buderim Backyard" and although it is not of a specific tree, it is of the garden I look at when I paint on my back deck. (see my website http://members.dodo.com.au/~tanmayo)
It concerns me that much of the beauty of Buderim is under threat because allot of the senior trees in the area that have historical significance are non-indigenous. The original indigenous trees of this mountain were the Australian Red Cedar that was wiped out a centaury ago by the timber industry. There are hardly any of these giants left on Buderim Mountain. Infact I have not seen any surviving trees but there may be some. The early pioneers replanted the area with non-indigenous trees such as the Poinciana, Fig, Camphor Laurel and Slash Pine. Many of these trees have historical significance. However because they are non-indigenous and are not politically correct, the regional council is proposing to remove these trees off Buderim. This would be a great loss that would change this beautiful area for ever. There needs to be an overall PLAN in place for BUDERIM MOUNTAIN where significant trees can be kept and their seedlings controlled together with a replanting program for indigenous trees. Chopping senior trees down without first replanting new ones is not acceptable in an area that prides itself on its beauty. Hopefully a satisfactory solution will be forthcoming in the near future. This is a great opportunity for the Buderim community to work with council to develop an overall plan for parks and the local environment on BUDERIM MOUNTAIN.
