Walking Tree Fragments
The proposed art work will explore the fragility of the shoreline of the Noosa River and everglades area with particular emphasis on mangroves and the riparian zone (along the edge of the river). This work will link and continue on from a previous body of work looking at coastal and mangrove areas on the Westernport Bay Region in Victoria and most recently in the coastal regions of the Daintree National Park.
Mangroves are important defenders of the integrity of the rivers edge. By focusing attention on the beauty and fragility of these areas the work will connect community concerns with larger global issues including climate change and environmental degradation.
These works will expand the conventional frame work of print media by exploring links between media and concept. Relief printing, photogravure and mono-prints may be used. Methods of mounting and presenting work will also explore these links.
Personal exploration and research has confirmed the significance and importance of mangroves to the health of the riparian zone in the Noosa area. Photographs, sketches and other information collected during this research will become the background for the creation of the final art works. The final work will comprise a collage of fragments which may be ‘read’ in ways both figurative and abstract.
